The French Parliament passed a new law in July 2018 on the protection of trade secrets (law 2018-670), which transposes Directive 2016/943/UE of 8 June 2016. This new law protects undisclosed trade secrets (business know-how and non-public information) against their unlawful acquisition, use and disclosure.
In 2013, an international agreement establishing a European Unitary patent system including a unitary patent and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) was signed by the European Union ministers. The UPC will have exclusive competence in respect of European patents and European patents with unitary effect.
